

About Piano:
Piano is a course offered as an elective course at CCA. It started as a major art area in the 24-25’ school year. The elective course will continue to be offered to beginning and intermediate students. Students in grades 6th-12th may audition for piano. Students interested in auditioning for piano as a major should consider the following information below.
On audition day:
- Please bring 2 copies of your resume . Your current headshot (a small photo) should be included in your resume. Your resume should also describe any music experience or special talents. This resume can be designed in a way that reflects your personality. This example template is just to have something to base it on.
- Please bring a current transcript or report card.
- Transcript for rising grades 10th – 12th
- Report Card for rising grades 6th – 9th
Early-Intermediate Piano:
- Play two contrasting pieces at their level.
- Play two scales of choice and one octave of their choice.
- Sight reading at beginner level should demonstrate notes and rhythms on the staff.
Late-Intermediate Piano:
- Read and perform at sight different note values and rhythmic patterns.
- Perform from memory two contrasting pieces that demonstrates proficiency from one of the following periods: Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Contemporary time periods (equivalent to Alfred level 5, or Faber level 4 curriculum).
- Technique: perform scales from memory at least 1 octave: C, D, A and G
Advanced Piano:
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the music terminology appropriate to high school level literature
- Demonstrate ability to sight-read at an intermediate level
- Play advanced rhythms
- Perform from memory TWO contrasting pieces that demonstrate proficiency of varied repertoire. 5 minute maximum time. Bring music with measures numbered for the audition.
- Technique: perform scales from memory: C, D, E, F, G, A, and B- at least 2 octaves
Tips for Auditions:
- Please be prompt and punctual.
- Dress appropriately for an audition.
- Introduce yourself and your piece before you begin, take a moment to warm up, and breathe, then share the music you worked so hard to prepare.
Additional Requirements for the Program:
- Students must be willing to attend an approved professional and/or collegiate-level concert every nine weeks.
- Students must be committed to attending all required rehearsals and performances outside of school hours.
- Students must have an instrument and be committed to practice at least 30 minutes a day.
